Based on the Comedy Central show Reno 911! the film is directed by cast-member Robert Ben Garant. The wacky film surrounds Reno cops called into Miami on Spring Break to a national police convention that faces a terrorist attack.
This movie is yet another successful Marvel Comics adaptation. Starring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider rode it’s way to over $115 million at the box office. Co-starring Peter Fonda and Eva Mendez, Ghost Rider hits shelves today in a widescreen and two-disc extended version.
Eddie Murphy’s follow-up to the role of his lifetime in Dreamgirls isn’t exactly what everyone had in mind. On second thought, maybe it was. Murphy plays three characters including not only Norbit, but also Norbit’s wife, Rasputia. Directed by Brian Robbins and co-written Murphy and his brother Charlie, the movie received criticisms for the stereotypes it played, but that didn’t stop people from going to the theaters. Also starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Thandie Newton, Eddie Griffin, and Marlon Wayans the movie netted nearly $95 million at the box office.
The Bill Condon helmed film based on the Broadway musical of the same name about a fictional girls singing group modeled after Diana Ross’s Supremes features a star studded cast including Beyonce, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, and American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson. Hudson’s role as Effie White netted her the Oscar for Best New Actress. The movie arrives on DVD in a regular edition as well as a “Two-Disc Showstopper” edition. The latter features a documentary about the making of the film and actor screen tests.
